These luxurious pearls have an elaborate and beautiful diamond covered Platinum clasp. The pearls are 20" long and graduate gracefully in size from 7.4mm at the center front to 3.5mm at the back by the clasp. The Platinum clasp holds 36 old mine cut diamonds and adds to the beauty of the early cultured pearls. The luster and sheen of the pearls is lovely. Circa 1915. This strand of pearls is just the right length to wear alone or layered with other necklaces. The clasp is very Edwardian with a 14k gold core to the heavy platinum barrel shape covered in diamonds. The little chunky diamonds twinkle beautifully.
Pearls were 1st cultured in 1893 by Mikimoto, cultured pearls are created by adding an irritant, such as a grain of sand or small bead to a pearl oyster to encourage it to cover the irritant in nacre, thus creating a pearl.
